One goal of the Tuscaloosa City Schools strategic plan is to provide opportunities for all students to be connected to their school through extra-curricular activities. RQMS is dedicated to making this happen and is working to support teams, clubs, and activities that will interest our students. Opportunities include:
Battle of the Books Team (BOB): Students in grades 6-8 may try out for this team in January. To get started, students should read the 8 required books listed on the library page. Once the team is organized, students study together to prepare for the City-County Battle of the Books Competition in March. Last year, the BOB competition was limited to 15 student participants per school. This number is set by the competition organizers each year and may vary. Sponsored by Mrs. Stephanie Hickman, librarian.
Robotics Team: Students work together to prepare for the Shelton State Community College BEST Robotics Competition on October 29th and at The University of Alabama robotics competition in the spring. Sponsored by Ms. Moore, PLTW teacher.
Scripp's National Spelling Bee: Students participate in class level spelling bees to qualify for our local school and county spelling bees. Sponsored by Mrs. Jamie Thomas.
Engineering Club: Prepare for and participate in this year's Card Board Regatta, November 17-18. Sponsored by Ms. Moore.
Geography Bee: Students are quizzed on geography questions to participate in our local school Geography Bee. Winners qualify for advanced competitions. Sponsored by Mr. Jon Hall.
