Westlawn Middle School Faculty and Staff, Students, and Parents:
It is with honor and great pleasure that I greet you as the new Principal of Westlawn Middle School. I am humbled and most appreciative of the opportunity presented to me to become a member of this educational family. I am looking forward to an exciting year of learning and growing with our students and working with our professional staff and you, our parents and community members.
I have been privileged to have spent 15 wonderful years as an educator working with students from the elementary, middle, and high school level. I also served five years as a Regional Coach with the Alabama State Department of Education.
What can you expect from Westlawn Middle the new 2016-2017 school year? Westlawn Middle School is excited about offering Foreign Language, honor courses, longer blocks for core ELA and Math, a full time band program, an award winning choir, an awesome strings program, student clubs, and unique opportunities for 8th grade students to explore classes at TCTA, and many athletic programs.
As the instructional leader of Westlawn Middle School, my main goal is to ensure that every student is provided the highest quality of education possible in a safe and supportive learning environment. Working together as a team with our staff and parents, I am committed to helping each student achieve their very best. Every student is valued and worthy of our best effort.
In order to accomplish this goal, I have developed over the years a philosophical phrase: The 4 A’s to Success. These are: Attendance, Attitude, Academics, and Activities. I will be spending a considerable amount of time discussing and implementing these concepts to ensure students are successfully moving toward high school, postsecondary education, and/or the workforce. I realize that differentiated, rigorous, and relevant instruction that meets the needs of each student will be the vehicle to ensuring that all students are successful. A team approach is most definitely necessary to create and maintain that desired learning environment.
I look forward to the exchange of ideas as we all work in harmony much like a symphony to create educational masterpieces.
