I started my professional career as a geologist with Tom Joiner and Associates. From there, I transitioned into teaching earth science and life science at Holy Spirit Middle School.
In 2001, I graduated with my Masters in Gifted Education from the University of Alabama and achieved National Board Certification in Middle Adolescence Language Arts in 2005. I renewed my National Board Certification and finished my administrative certification at the University of Alabama.
My teaching experience includes a mix of middle school and elementary schools. I was fortunate to work with the team that first explored creating an academic magnet school in Tuscaloosa City Schools. I was placed at TMS-E when it opened and shared Mrs. Burkhalter's vision for serving our students as part of a School Wide Enrichment model.
This model included offering curriculum compacting for high-achieving students, providing enrichment through the partnership program with community volunteers, and weekly enrichment classes with a gifted specialist for all students. I also share a commitment to the International Baccalaureate PYP program at TMSE and look forward to engaging our students with people and cultures from around the world!
My husband and I have three grown daughters. We love to ride bikes, travel, and host international students. I am very happy to serve the students, parents and the faculty at TMSE!
Our school was developed around 5 areas of focus which include the following:
Each of the components enhanced our efforts to become an International Baccalaureate School. We officially became an IB Authorized School in 2013!
