Rock Quarry Elementary School students raised $7,000 to benefit childhood cancer research to mark National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month in September.
The school hosted an assembly Friday where the students who raised the most funds pied teachers in the face. Students also wore pajamas to school to remember those with cancer who often have to wear pajamas.
"When you think about children who are sick, they have a face and a name," says Principal Laura Jockisch. "We want to reach out in every way we can to help all children and those who are near and dear to our hearts at Rock Quarry."
She says she is consistently overwhelmed by her students' willingness to share with others.
"It speaks to their character and the building of their character as young children and as they become adults."
