IB Programme
Tuscaloosa City Schools is committed to ensuring that a student’s pathway to the International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma can be continuous. In 2016, the district expanded its IB offerings to serve students in grades 9 and 10, featuring the Middle Years Programme (MYP) at Central High School. A continuation of the programmes offered at the Tuscaloosa Magnet Schools, grades 9 and 10 will prepare students for the rigorous demands of the Diploma Programme (DP) which has been in existence at Central since 1995.

Whether your student started with the Tuscaloosa Magnet Schools or not, teachers working in all programmes will be trained in the IB principles and will work collaboratively to ensure a student’s success.
About the Middle Years Programme
The MYP is a challenging framework that encourages students to make practical connections between their studies and the real world.
The MYP is a five-year programme, which can be implemented in a partnership between schools, or in several abbreviated (two, three or four year) formats. Students who complete the MYP are well-prepared to undertake the IB Diploma Programme (DP) or Career-related Programme (CP).
About the Diploma Programme
The DP curriculum is made up of six subject groups and the DP core, comprising theory of knowledge (TOK), creativity, activity, service (CAS) and the extended essay.
Through the DP core, students reflect on the nature of knowledge, complete independent research and undertake a project that often involves community service.
